Object Lesson : Obedience

val box 1

Proverb: Listen, my son, to your father’s instruction and do not forsake your mother’s teaching. Proverbs 1:8

Supplies: Valentine’s Day chocolate heart box, dirt

Preparation: Fill the heart box with dirt.

True obedience comes from the heart. On the outside we may seem like we are obeying while inside we are not.

This heart (show the heart box) is pretty. It looks like it is an obedient heart. We can look like we are obeying but be really mad inside (open the heart to see dirt). Even though the outside of the heart was pretty, inside it was full of dirt. When our hearts are like this, full of grumbling, complaining or anger, we are not really obeying. God wants us to have obedient hearts. He wants us to obey not just with our actions but also with our attitudes.

This object lesson is an excerpt from Huzzah for the King! Curriculum , a twelve week elementary aged series on Proverbs.

    good object lesson. I have used a bowed gift box with a rotten banana inside before for the verse-Man looks at the outside, God looks at the heart.
