Have everyone write their whole name on a piece of paper. Where did each person get their name? Tell stories about how each person was named. Were they named after someone? Why did the parents like the name? If you don’t know the meaning of the name, search the internet to find the meaning of each name.
Read: The angel, Gabriel, visited Mary and said: “Don’t be afraid, Mary,” the angel told her, “for you have found favor with God! You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you will name him Jesus. Luke 1: 30-31
An angel came to Joseph in a dream and said, “And she will have a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” Matthew 1: 21
Ask: How did Jesus get his name? How is that different from how you got your name? When you hear the name “Jesus” what do you think about?
Pray: Thank you God for sending Jesus to save his people from their sins. Thank you that we can call on Jesus’ name and he will always hear us.
